With the Cultural Property Act, the government of Québec granted double protection status to Mount Royal by declaring it the first historic and natural district in Québec. By giving it this double designation, the government of Québec intends to protect and foster the harmonious development of this site that is so unique because of its architecture, landscapes, and artistic, funerary, commemorative, archaeological and ethno-historical heritage.
An area of exceptional richness
The territory protected covers the three summits of Mount Royal and includes the large religious and educational institutions, the cemeteries and several monuments and historical sites that mark the development of the mountain, Mount Royal Park and the Outremont summit
