This magnificent French Beaux-Arts and Arts & Crafts inspired building was designed and built in 1931-32 by architect Aristide Beaugrand-Champagne, as part of the City of Montréal’s Unemployment Assistance Work Programme. The building is a study in contrasts with its imposing size, luxurious materials (marble, granite) and elegant doors and paintings by great artists. These features make for a beautiful, opulent building which remains humbly known as the Chalet for its exposed beams, the simplicity of its interior layout and its vocation as a shelter for hikers and skiers.

Located in front of the chalet, the scenic Kondiaronk lookout offers spectacular views of the downtown area and the St. Lawrence River.
