It is with sadness that Les amis de la montagne learned of the passing of Jean Béliveau, hockey legend, great Montrealer and a source of inspiration to us all.

Let us take this opportunity to recall a tribute paid to Jean Béliveau at the inauguration of Beaver Lake Pavilion in January 2006, with the unveiling of the CCM Tackaberry skates he had worn on the day of his 500th regular season goal in 1971, the year he retired from the Montreal Canadiens. Cast in bronze, the skates are permanently exhibited on the ground level of Beaver Lake Pavilion.

This tribute to Jean Béliveau was the initiative of Power Corporation of Canada who made a $2 million donation to Les amis de la montagne in a tripartite agreement with the Ville de Montréal for the revitalisation of the Beaver Lake sector, which included the installation of a refrigerated skating rink accessible to the public free of charge every winter since 2006.

Our sincere condolences to Jean Béliveau’s family and friends.
