Lucia Kowaluk, exemplary activist citizen: appointment to the Order of Canada and motion of congratulations from Montreal city council

Lucia Kowaluk has been an exemplary activist for over fifty years advocating for a better quality of life for Montrealers, at both the social and community level and in protecting architectural heritage and green spaces.

Les amis de la montagne would like to acknowledge the involvement and leadership of this remarkable woman and congratulate her for being named to the Order of Canada last January. Added to this honour was a motion of congratulations voted by Montreal city council on January 21 for her dedication to social justice and heritage preservation.

At this time of decisions concerning the future use of soon-to-be vacant hospital buildings on Mount Royal, and in addition to her extensive involvement in the community sector, Lucia Kowaluk is currently organizing a coalition to establish social and community housing in the Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal.
