Mountain Clean-Up 2015 Results


Sunshine and crowds show up for the 24th Mount Royal Clean-Up (Corvée Mont-Royal)!

Graced with a wonderful spring day, more than 700 citizens responded to an invitation issued by Les amis de la montagne to participate in the 24th edition of the Mountain Clean-Up (Corvée du Mont-Royal). Together, they collected 201 bags of trash and 31 bags of recyclable material, dismantled 12 makeshift campsites and 35 camp fires, and monitored the health and growth of over 1400 trees.

Back at Mount Royal Chalet after three hours of clean-up duty, participants were offered a healthy lunch by Fontaine Santé and attended a birds of prey presentation by UQROP (Quebec union for the rehabilitation of birds of prey).

At the event’s closing ceremony, Peter Howlett, President of Les amis de la montagne, thanked the participants warmly for their involvement the Corvée and announced the launch of May 2015: Mount Royal Month.  Guests of honour Stéphan Bourbonnais, Executive Vice-President and Regional Manager for Eastern Canada, TD Wealth Management, and Chairman of the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, Réal Ménard, Executive committee member at the Ville de Montréal in charge of sustainable development, the environment, large parks and green spaces, and Hélène David, Minister of Culture and Communications and Minister responsible for the Protection and Promotion of the French Language, also had words of praise for the exceptional turn-out at the mountain clean-up.

The Corvée ended on a musical note, with the launch of Les dimanches en musique au Chalet du Mont-Royal, and Salut Printemps! a concert by Les Muses Chorale, a women’s choir under the artistic direction of Xavier Brossard-Ménard.

The Mountain Clean-Up was the kick off event of May 2015: Mount Royal Month. Developed by Les amis de la montagne, Mount Royal Month is organised jointly with the Ville de Montréal. The 11th edition of this event was generously supported by the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation. It was also supported by the STM (Silver Partner); Fontaine Santé (Bronze Partner); and La Presse+, CHOM and CJAD (Medias Partners).
