Montrealers are invited to take part in the annual Mountain Clean Up organised by Les amis de la montagne on Sunday, May 1st. This ritual springtime event is an opportunity for the public to contribute to the care and conservation of Mount Royal!
Over the morning, participants will collect litter and recyclables on the mountain or monitor previously planted saplings, an essential step in maintaining the mountain’s biodiversity. The event will take place rain or shine.
NEW: Advance registration via EventBrite is mandatory as the number of participants in the Mountain Clean Up is limited.
All those registered must confirm their arrival at Mount Royal Chalet before 9:15 a.m. on May 1st or their places will be reassigned to last-minute registrants.
PROGRAMME OF THE DAY
8:45 – Registration confirmation at Mount Royal Chalet and distribution of the official Mountain Clean Up t-shirt.
9:15 – End of registration confirmation; assignment of remaining places to last-minute registrants.
9:30 – Word of welcome and departure of the teams, each headed by a group leader.
12:30 pm – Complimentary lunch served to Mountain Clean Up participants by their respective team leader. Music and information booths until 2 p.m.
INSTRUCTIONS TO PARTICIPANTS
Participants must wear closed-toe shoes.
Bicycles, dogs and strollers are not allowed on clean-up sites.
Children under 6 years of age cannot participate in the event. Children aged 6 to 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Team and task assignment will be determined on-site.
Participants are urged to bring a reusable water bottle or cup.
Active transportation (walking, cycling) and public transportation are recommended to get to Mount Royal.
If using public transportation: Mont-Royal metro station, bus 11 • Côte-des-Neiges metro station, bus 165 and 11
This year, Les amis de la montagne is offering separate Mountain Clean Up events for school groups (Friday, May 6) and for special-interest or other groups (Saturday, May 7).
The Mountain Clean Up is presented as part of May 2016: Mount Royal Month. Developed by Les amis de la montagne, Mount Royal Month is organised jointly with the Ville de Montréal. The 12th edition of this event is generously supported by the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation. It is also supported by the STM (Silver Partner) and Journal Métro (Medias partner).
