On November 22, Les amis de la montagne presented a brief at the public consultation regarding the proposed Mount Royal Heritage Site conservation plan organized by the culture ministry of Québec (the Conseil du patrimoine du Québec).
The plan presents the ministry’s guidelines for preserving, rehabilitating and enhancing the site so as to respect its valuable heritage and characteristics. The plan is meant to guide the minister when decisions about changes to this site need to be authorized.
In its brief, Les amis suggested modifying the proposed conservation plan to achieve other guideline goals – these being to preserve, rehabilitate and enhance the Mount Royal Heritage Site. Les amis also reiterated the key role the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications of Quebec plays in protecting and enhancing Mount Royal.
The recommendations submitted in the brief are based on the premise that the Mount Royal Heritage Site is of national interest and that conserving and enhancing it while sharing its cultural and natural heritage are the concern of all Quebec citizens.
