Public Forum: A new park entrance and the completion of the path linking the park’s main staircase to the Kondiaronk lookout

On June 8, from 6 to 8 p.m., Les amis de la montagne is pleased to organize a public forum on two major development projects intended by the City of Montréal to improve and enhance Mount Royal Park, and also to pursue the fight against the spread of invasive plants that pose a threat to the mountain’s biodiversity.

The event will be an opportunity to gain insight into what invasive alien plants do to natural environments and how they are impacting Mount Royal’s ecosystem. It will include presentations of two development projects proposed by the Department of Large Parks, Greening and Mount Royal (Services des grands parcs, du verdissement et du Mont-Royal - SGPVMR), which are in keeping with the spirit and objectives of the Mount Royal Protection and Enhancement Plan, adopted by the City in 2009. Integrating the ecological management of water and vegetation, the enhancement of views and landscapes and the improvement of park accessibility, these projects include important planting work, the completion of the path linking the park’s main staircase to the Kondiaronk lookout, and the greening of some 3,000 square meters in replacement of an existing automobile ramp, to create a spectacular new park entrance from Côte-des-Neiges Road. A question period will follow.

Les amis de la montagne played an advisory role in the development of certain aspects of these projects, related principally to the protection of natural habitats and to park visitor experience while the projects are underway. Confident in the value of the improvements proposed, Les amis will take part in building public awareness of the projects, which should begin in the fall of 2016, and in urging park users to abide by the temporary measures required while work is being carried out. This public forum is the first step in this awareness building plant.
