"A COMMUNITY IN ACTION FOR MOUNT ROYAL"
Since 1998, Les amis de la montagne have been committed to a series of environmental activities and educational programs to raise awareness about the importance of Mount Royal’s natural environment. In keeping with the objectives of the City of Montreal’s Mount Royal Protection and Enhancement Plan, Les amis de la montagne created the Environmental Stewardship Program in order to support owners and managers of the mountain in their efforts to take an active part in the conservation of the mountain’s natural environment.
The Environmental Stewardship Program invites all members of the Montreal community – youth and adults, individuals, groups and corporations – to take concrete action in favour of the protection of our natural environment within an overall approach of environmental education.
All proposed activities are supervised by professionals and are in line with a scientific, research-based process aimed at increasing knowledge of the natural environment and intervention methods for its conservation.
- Planting indigenous trees and shrubs
- Conservation activities:
- Establishing the growth and survival rates of trees planted since 2003
- Cutting invasive species that affect the biodiversity of Mount Royal’s forests
- Evaluating the controls taken to combat invasive plants
