Every February since 1998, Les amis de la montagne have provided admirers of Mont Royal an evening of celebration featuring a night time snowshoe trek in the mountain’s magical setting. On February 16, 2012, the 15th anniversary edition of the Tuques Bleues Celebration promises to delight participants once again, complete with medals, gastronomy and conviviality, all on the launch evening of Montréal en lumière.

“Manulife Financial is thrilled to return this year as Les amis de la montagne’s principal partner of the 15th Tuques Bleues Celebration. This benefit event provides a unique occasion to celebrate our mountain and to participate in its preservation. I heartily encourage both individuals and companies to form teams of snowshoers and to partake in this unique event next February 16,” said Cyril Bendahan, Honorary Co-Chair, and Regional Vice-President, Group Benefits, Manulife Financial.

“Montréal is recognized around the world for its charm and quality of life,” said Michel Leblanc, Honorary Co-Chair, and President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “A number of factors contribute to its reputation, including Mont Royal which, at the heart of the city, shapes the urban landscape. I encourage the business community to seize this opportunity to take advantage of one of the most wonderful attractions our city has to offer and to give their concrete support to its preservation.”

Nearly 700 participants are expected to attend the event. The objective is to raise $250,000 to benefit education and protection programs on Mont Royal. The Tuques Bleues Celebration recalls the famous snowshoe treks by torchlight organized by sporting clubs in the 19th Century. Members of these first snowshoe clubs in North America could be identified by their blue tuques.

Les amis de la montagne extend thanks to their partners for their commitment and contribution to the event: principal partner, Gold level: Manulife Financial; Silver level: Labatt – A Better World; with the support of Tubbs Snowshoes and Atlas Snowshoes.
