Come rain or shine, hundreds of Montrealers are expected to participate in the traditional Corvée du Mont-Royal clean-up on Sunday, May 2, organized by Les amis de la montagne in collaboration with the Ville de Montréal. In the morning, activities include litter pick-up, tree planting and cutting of exotic invasive species and in the afternoon, animation and activities will celebrate the International Year of Biodiversity. The Corvée clean-up event also signals the start of “May 2010: Mount Royal Month”, an initiative that provides all members of the community with opportunities to (re)discover their mountain.
Individual registration for the Corvée clean-up is on the day of the event from 8:45-9:30 a.m. at the Chalet du Mont-Royal near the lookout. All necessary equipment will be provided on site, with snacks and beverages for participants. Appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes are recommended.
To increase the positive impact of this day on the environment, participants are encouraged to use public transportation to get to Mount Royal Park. The number 11 bus from the Mont-Royal metro stops near the park’s summit.
Les amis de la montagne wish to thank the Ville de Montréal for its generous material and logistic contributions to the event, as well as the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, principal partner of “May 2010: Mount Royal Month”. The activities in May are also made possible thanks to the participation of Group Yellow Inc., National Bank Financial Group, Rock Détente, Virgin Radio 96, CJAD 800 AM, La Presse, The Gazette and numerous collaborators and volunteers.
