New: four interactive terminals at Smith House

MOUNT ROYAL AT YOUR FINGERTIPS!

Les amis de la montagne present four interactive terminals newly installed at Smith House! These terminals invite visitors to test their knowledge about the mountain using their fingertips on the four touch screens. Each terminal features a theme that is fun and instructive, accessible to all ages. Youngsters and adults can discover Mount Royal Park’s treasures and take action to ensure its conservation.

Les amis de la montagne invite park visitors to Smith House in Mount Royal Park (1260 chemin Remembrance) between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on the weekends of September 25-26 and October 2-3, 2010, to try the different games and challenges presented on the touch screens. Educators will be on hand to accompany participants in their exploration and even hand out rewards to challenge winners!

“The interactive terminals are the latest addition to Les amis de la montagne’s educational tool box. For the last 30 years, the organization has developed a variety of innovative approaches to promote the mountain’s natural and historic heritage, in order to encourage its conservation. Each theme is a goldmine of information, attractively illustrated in simple and lively language, accessible to all age groups. We hope that this enjoyable learning opportunity will encourage citizens to become even more aware of and respectful towards the mountain environment,” said Sylvie Guilbault, Executive Director, Les amis de la montagne.

The interactive terminals entitled, “Take action for the mountain”, “Mount Royal’s flora and habitats”, “The animals of Mount Royal” and “The park from past to present”, are the first phase of a project to renew the permanent exhibit in Smith House, slated for completion in early 2011. The exhibit renewal project is made possible thanks to financial contributions from the Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine and the Ville de Montréal as part of the Entente sur le développement culturel de Montréal, principal partners of the project, from the Fondation Hydro-Québec pour l’environnement for the terminal theme “Take action for the mountain”, and from the Fondation de la faune du Québec for the content related to the mountain’s fauna.
