WHAT'S ON THIS WEEKEND ON MOUNT ROYAL?

Renowned artists such as Armand Vaillancourt and Louis Chavignier left their mark on Mount Royal following their participation in the first International Sculpture Symposium in 1964. Join Les amis de la montagne’s artist-guide to discover these monumental creations and other works of public art in Mount Royal Park, then let nature inspire you in all its fall transformation to create your own work of nature-art. At Maison Smith, discover the colourful sketches and canvasses of artist Mathilde Renaud that reveal the mountain’s landscapes.

Only three weekends remain this fall to participate in conservation activities on the mountain. This Saturday, the conservation team invite you to join the tree-planting and inventory-taking activities of the Urban Bioblitz on the northern summit of Mount Royal.

TEMPORARY EXHIBITION "COULEURS MONT ROYAL"

Artist Mathilde Renaud presents landscapes of Mount Royal created on the spot. From sketches to canvas, she discovers places on the mountain in much greater detail. The spontaneity and rhythm of the lines of her drawings, as well as the interplay of colours, light and composition of her paintings, create an ambiance such that her subject becomes palpable.

MOUNT ROYAL ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Expand your knowledge of conservation issues while participating in activities aimed at maintaining Mount Royal’s biodiversity.

* This Saturday, the conservation team invite you to join the tree-planting and inventory-taking activities of the URBAN BIOBLITZ on the northern summit of Mount Royal *

URBAN BIOBLITZ ON THE NORTHERN SUMMIT OF MOUNT ROYAL

Everyone is invited to participate in this vast inventory-taking activity that brings together scientists, naturalists, students and citizens in order to identify the biodiversity of the new Parc du troisième Sommet and portions of the Université de Montréal campus on the northern summit of the mountain. Don’t miss this hands-on opportunity to learn inventory-taking techniques directly from scientists in the field.

Activities include: a conference on the impact of the environment on our health, kiosks presented by environmental organizations, inventories of fauna and flora, bird-watching and bird-listening stations, a guided walk at night on the lookout for birds of prey and bats, a visit to the Université de Montréal’s beehives and Les amis de la montagne’s/SOVERDI’s educational tree nursery, the environmental assessment of pathways and the health of previously planted trees, and the planting of indigenous trees.
The Bioblitz is an initiative of the Forum jeunesse de l’île de Montréal, created in collaboration with the CRÉ de Montréal and L’île du savoir in partnership with Les amis de la montagne, thanks to the financial support of the Ministère des ressources naturelles and the Ville de Montréal.
