What: The activity consists of manual uprooting of cow parsley, a problematic species for biodiversity.
When: June 15, 10 AM to 12 PM
Where: Reception at Smith House
Towards the end of winter, it can be exciting to see the first patches of green appearing amidst the melting snow. However, many invasive species tend to sprout before native plants, effectively outcompeting them in the race for sunlight. Cow parsley is ne such species, carpeting the ground in several sectors of the mountain and taking up space that belongs to native flora.
After spending two years controlling dog-strangling vine in an area near Beaver Lake, we're now aiming to control the population of cow parsley found there to encourage the establishment of native flora.
