Les Amis de la montagne proudly announces renewed partnership with City of Montréal

Montreal, May 18, 2023 - For more than 35 years, Les Amis de la montagne has worked in partnership with the City of Montréal to implement education, conservation and environmental stewardship programs in Mount Royal Park. Les Amis de la montagne is pleased to announce that the City of Montréal has renewed its financial commitment with funding of more than one million dollars over three years, so that our organization can continue to maintain a high-quality, natural environment that meets the needs of locals and tourists alike.

Montreal, April 27, 2023 - Les Amis de la montagne is announcing its recommendations to the City of Montréal in anticipation of the City’s 2024 budget. Given the significant stresses being exerted on the city’s natural environments and green spaces, the City of Montréal must either use the tools at its disposal or develop new ones in its budget to reverse the trend and strengthen the territory’s resilience.

Les Amis de la montagne welcomes City of Montréal plan for an expanded, greener Mount Royal Park

Montreal, December 13, 2022 - Les Amis de la montagne welcomes the City of Montréal's announcement of historic measures to be taken to expand and “green” up Mount Royal Park. Les Amis is pleased to note that some of its recommendations will be implemented as part of the plan, such as the reduction of parking spaces in the Smith House area, the expansion of Mount Royal Park through the incorporation of three hectares of the former Royal Victoria Hospital property, and greater efforts to control invasive plants.

Les Amis de la montagne launches a comic strip to raise awareness among Mount Royal users

Montreal, November 23, 2022 - Les Amis de la montagne launched a digital campaign today to raise awareness about the vulnerability of Mount Royal’s ecosystems. Presented in the form of comic strips created by cartoonist Michel Hellman, the campaign aims to encourage those who visit the mountain to adopt environmentally responsible behaviours and protect this vast urban green space, cherished by Montrealers and tourists alike.

Howlett, C.M., President of Les Amis de la montagne, had the pleasure of awarding the 2022 Prix du Mont-Royal to Father Claude Grou, C.S.C., during an award ceremony at Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal, in the presence of more than 60 invited guests.

Montreal, Monday, May 30, 2022 - Following the publication of the Office de consultation publique de Montréal (OCPM) report on the repurposing of the former Royal Victoria Hospital, Les Amis de la montagne, Héritage Montréal, the Ordre des urbanistes du Québec (OUQ), the Conseil régional de l’environnement de Montréal (CRE-Montréal) and the Association des architectes paysagistes du Québec (AAPQ) have come out in favour of the 31 recommendations put forward by the commissioners.
