Be a volunteer birdwatcher and take part in a winter-long North American survey of feeder birds!
Project FeederWatch - Training - Friday, December 10, 10:00 , in English

Take part in a vast North American survey of feeder birds on Fridays or Saturdays from November 13, 2021 to April 30, 2022

Since 2005, Les amis de la montagne have been involved in Project FeederWatch, a winter-long survey of birds that visit feeders in Canada and the United States. Our volunteer birdwatchers will be required to count and note the species of birds they observe at various feeders in Mount Royal Park. Observations will then be used as a basis for scientific research to study bird populations.

A visit can last from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the number of feeders you wish to observe. All the necessary material is provided by Les amis de la montagne. Joining this bird counting project is a great way to enjoy nature and winter on the mountain, while contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge!

In addition, this is a self-guided volunteering activity that is safe during COVID-19 period.

Important! To take part in this project, you must attend a one-hour training session given by Les amis de la montagne and commit to visiting the feeders on Mount Royal at least three times during the season.

However, training is not mandatory if you have participated in the project in previous years since the protocol remains unchanged. In addition, as training places are limited, it would be desirable to leave room for future observers. Thank you.

Fridays or Saturdays, until end of April
