Fresh Air and Discovery Await you on Mount Royal!

Are you afraid the season will drag on and on? Are you tired of sitting at home? Well, we have just the thing! In winter, Mount Royal abounds with activities for people of all ages and levels. All of Les Amis de la montagne’s sports venues and rental counters are open and we’ve even added some extra time slots for private adult and youth cross-country ski lessons. What’s more, Mother Nature recently blessed us with several centimetres of snow and is getting ready to give us even more, so conditions are just about perfect for some outdoor fun, fresh air and recreation!

Among other great news, once again this year, cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals are free* for young people living on the island of Montréal. Why not come skiing or snowshoeing as a family? That way, you not only get a little exercise, but you also get to enjoy the mountain’s breathtaking scenery!

Visit our website to find out more about our full range of activities and view our opening hours and equipment rental rates. Here are a few examples of the activities you can enjoy on Mount Royal, while always keeping to the designated areas and trails to avoid damaging fragile ecosystems:

  • Guided excursions: several options are available - you can do them in the daytime or  evening, with your friends, or as a family.

  • Snowshoeing: the trails are open and there is plenty of lovely snow at the moment.

  • Cross-country skiing: the trails are well marked and groomed; all that’s missing is you! You can still register for adult or youth private cross-country ski lessons.

  • Skating: the rink is ready for your gliding pleasure from morning ‘til night.

  • Sliding: conditions are ideal right now, whether you’re free-sliding or snow tubing.

  • Walking: Chemin Olmsted and some of the well-packed trails are perfect for a recreational walk or contemplative stroll. Consider using crampons in certain sections.

  • Enjoy a steaming cup of hot chocolate - or something else, perhaps! All three Cafés des Amis are open and offer a range of delicious snacks and beverages.

No equipment? No problem! Our rental counters are open and our experts are there to assist you! No reservation required. Did you forget your tuque or your mittens, or would you just like a little souvenir from the mountain? Come see us at the gift shop at Smith House, where we can also provide you with information about Mount Royal!

A few tips before heading out:

  • Consultez notre site Web pour connaître les conditions des plateaux sportifs;

  • Respect your physical limits and level of experience. You’re on a mountain, so some of the trails are steep. Don’t push your limits if you don’t master the techniques of the sport you’re practising and please, stay on the trails.

So…see you on Mont Royal? Have a great winter, everyone!

*Youths must be accompanied by an adult to borrow the equipment described.
