Special edition: 150th anniversary of Mount Royal Park and 40th anniversary of Les Amis de la montagne

Cameras ready! We invite you to cast a sensitive, creative and personal eye on the park, its landscapes, its natural environments, its heritage, its uses and its future.

A photo contest to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Mount Royal Park and the 40th anniversary of Les Amis de la montagne

On May 24, 1876, visionary landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted created Mount Royal Park, designed to improve the health and well-being of all. One hundred and fifty years later, his vision remains deeply relevant.

This year also marks the 40th anniversary of Les Amis de la montagne, a non-profit organization committed since 1986 to the protection and enhancement of this exceptional place.

The Judging Panel

To honour the 150th anniversary of Mount Royal Park and the 40th anniversary of Les Amis de la montagne, a group of distinguished photographers and artists has been selected as jury members for this special edition of the photography contest.

These individuals have been chosen for their artistic vision, expertise, sensitivity to images, and deep connection to Mount Royal.

  • Catherine Martel is an artist based in Montreal. She specializes in portraiture and branding photography for entrepreneurs and creatives. Her approach is rooted in the belief that powerful images should evoke not just visual stimulation but also a profound emotional response. Rather than aiming for technical perfection, her gaze seeks to capture the authenticity and vulnerability that can’t be staged.

  • Ulysse Lemerise, a photographer specializing in architectural design based in Montreal, is always striving for perfection. His meticulous attention to detail can be seen from the initial stages of a photo shoot all the way through to the final product. This is evident in the precise lines and geometries, as well as the generous lighting that characterizes his work. His photographs, which have garnered numerous accolades, grace the pages of both national and international publications, serving as a testament to the cutting-edge creativity of Quebec’s foremost architects, designers, and builders.

  • Alex Tran studied tropical fish in Panama as part of his master’s degree in biology. After a few years, he turned to photography to satisfy his curiosity about people and the natural world. His personal projects delve into the intersection of art and science, while his commercial work focuses on portrait photography with a humanistic bent. He carries this same empathy into his teaching, imparting it to his students in his portrait classes at Collège Marsan.

  • Caroline Langevin has been a television camera operator for more than a quarter of a century. During this time, she has worked on countless shows in various genres, including documentaries, scripted dramas, and variety shows. Her meticulous, passionate, and emotionally sensitive approach to image creation is second nature to her. As a result, she has also found success in photography, photo direction, and live colour grading (CCU). At the core of her work is a deep commitment to capturing authenticity, humanity, and the powerful emotions that these elements can elicit. Through her framing and illumination, she consistently conveys a unique artistic perspective and emotional connection to her subjects.
