Les amis de la montagne plays a leading role in the debate surrounding mountain biking on Mount Royal. Already in 2008, Les amis de la montagne published a report dedicated to finding alternative solutions for the sustainable practice of mountain biking on the island of Montréal given the lack of official trails.
This study was the result of a collaborative effort between the City of Montréal, cycling associations and Mount Royal shareholders. Its findings excluded Mount Royal Park as a mountain biking site because of the incompatibility of this sport with the conservation objectives of the natural habitats and recommended the development of one or more alternate sites.
